Google has been working on incorporating the PWA experience directly onto Chrome for a while now. The company has released updates in the past that improve the PWA experience on Chrome. Now Google is working on incorporating PWAs directly into Chrome so users can download and use them as apps and access websites easily.

Spotted by Techdows, a new flag will now detect if a website supports PWA and will allow users to download it as a PWA. The feature is currently restricted to Chrome Canary and you can follow the steps below to enable it.

  • Go to Chrome Flags and look for “Desktop PWAs installable from Omnibox” flag.
  • Now enable the flag and relaunch Chrome.
  • Visit a PWA site, such as mobile.twitter.com.
  • You will now see a “+” icon with install label on the right corner of the address bar.
  • Click on it and select “Install” to install the PWA.

Google has already made a commit and has set the priority to 1. The feature is expected to release with Google Chrome v75.
