The lesser use of live animals (41%), which also provide high-fidelity training with the opportunity of simulating the full spectrum of the operation as well as surgical complications (e.g., bleeding), might be related to costs, logistical and infrastructure challenges, and even ethical or legal restrictions.15,16 Realistic models based on perfused tissue blocks are also available and may represent a valid and less expensive training tool.17,18
