Delta reportedly says Windows Phone is not feasible, has no plans to update its app

Sometimes, abandoning an app is akin to torture. Users will forever suffer through the bugs while watching its counterpart on competing platforms get refreshed with every new update. Sometimes, giving it a quick death by just having the app pulled is a more merciful alternative. While you think about that, Delta Airlines has all but dropped its Windows Phone app.

According to Windows Central, one of its readers received an email from Delta Airlines with the sad news. Delta claims that it will not be updating the app due to Windows Phone’s sub-optimal market share as it is not feasible for the business.

“Thank you also for reporting these issues. Unfortunately, we have not been updating the app for Windows Phones because the usage level is less than 1% of the total app usage. There are no plans to update it in the near future. We regret any inconvenience and frustration this may have caused.”

We’ve heard this story before from other developers and it’s unfortunate to see yet another major app jump ship. It seems more and more devs consider Windows Phone the new Symbian; a burning platform. At least the Delta app is still available to download, but knowing the company’s stance on Windows Phone, the question remains; for how long?

Still, among all this doom and gloom, there is a light. A sparkle of potential and promise. Will Windows 10 be enough to patch this burning, sinking ship that some developers think they’re on? Delta Airlines for one has already equipped its 11,000 pilots with Surface 2 tablets (that wont get updated to Windows 10), and 20,000 Windows Phones to its cabin crew. Windows-based devices in general are doing well in the aviation industry. So having smartphones and tablets unified with Windows 10 could turn things around. What are your thoughts on the matter, let us know in the comments below.
