SteamOS update 105 released

We have just updated the released alchemist repository. This is the same content that was pushed to alchemist_beta last week.

  • upstream iceweasel browser security updates
  • AMD driver update to match latest released driver (14.4)
  • Added script to retrieve system serial number to enable hardware promo scenarios
  • Upstream (Debian 7.5) updates for base-files, debian-installer, lcms2, libquvi-scripts, libsoup2.4, libxml2, samba, dpkg
  • Added unzip, git, cgdb and rsync to the repository
  • Added missing SSL certificate authorities package.
  • Added Realtek r8168 driver.
  • Added support for more Intel WiFi adapters.

Updated installers are also available at http://repo.steampowered.com/download with the following MD5 signatures:

Personally I hope this works. I think PC and console should remain different though. I think we'll see more PC developers and more powerful and more customization for consoles but I like them being different and having their strengths. I think it will be a shame if they become too much alike. I'm happy to buy Sony and have more gameplay variety that comes from making up for weaker graphics and I like PC games that don't just deliver graphics and make players fix gameplay. I'll never choose just one, because their traditions are good and not worth losing from either side. There is no one future for gaming, if there was I'd get bored with it. Both have a dynamic element that gives them a quality and I don't get people who are against one side and favor the other to the point of hatred. Sure I understand console rivalry but not losing two good things for something no one is really content with because what you will lose. PC gaming has lost enough already. I'll always buy both.
