Chop's FAQ
A little app from ZURB that lets people slice up bad code and share their feedback to help put it back together.
Why?
Giving one-off feedback on coding errors is a pain. You just want to share a quick, contextual note with someone, but there aren't any good tools out there to help you do it.
Chop is a simple way to add notes to a code snippet and share them.
What is Chop
Did someone code fist you? Chop is a quick and easy way to let the offending engineer know the error of their ways. Just copy and paste the lines in question, add your notes and share them with a unique URL.
Is that it?
Of course not! The person you share with will have the chance to pull out their Chopper and comment right back. You can keep the conversation going and even add more people to the mix if need be.
More people? Won't that get confusing?
Nah. Chop makes the conversation easy to follow by clearly highlighting the code snippet in question and indicating who's said what as you go back-and-forth.
All of this, and it looks awesome too?
You know it. Most code review tools look like an engineer created them (read: look like crap). ZURB's designers put in some serious time to make Chop look and feel like something you'll actually want to use.
How do I use it?
Chop was created to help make code reviews fast and fun. It only takes four steps to get going:
Grab some code.
Copy a code snippet and paste it in to Chop.
Tip: Use the buttons below to select your code type for proper syntax highlighting.
Add your feedback.
Select any line of the code, add your feedback and click “Save”.
Tip: Start anywhere and drag your cursor to comment on multiple lines at once.
Chop it!
Click the “Chop it!” button and let Chop do it's thing.
Tip: Or use the “Grab from a URL” link to get code directly from Git or anywhere else you store it.
Share with nerds.
Send over the URL to let them know that you've Chopped up some code.
Tip: They'll have the chance to reply to your comments. Discuss until they see it your way or prove you wrong!
